So it seems that all the child murders, rapes, sucidies, gang related crime, inter-continental wars, poverty, strife, economic calamity, genocide, terrorism, and my petition to get Ren & Stimpy back on the air hasn’t interested the media quite as much as this:

obama

What’s that a picture of? Oh, it’s a picture of Obama disgracing America, according to several news sources.

Obama was bowing to the emperor of Japan…an act some believe to be incredibly insulting and analagous to giving Americans the middle finger. I’ve done some research, and totally agree. Bowing, which is defined as such:

Bows are the traditional greeting in East Asia, particularly in Korea and Japan. However, bowing is not reserved only for greetings. Bowing is a gesture of respect.

And the middle finger is:

In Western culture, the finger (as in giving someone the finger), also known as the middle finger, the bird (as in flipping or flying the bird) or to flip someone off, is an obscene hand gesture, often meaning the phrase “fuck you” or “up yours”.

How could Obama have missed this!? They’re practically indentical!!!

Today’s Freak(s) of the Day are the people offended by this. Why is it wrong to respect another culture? Why is it such a big deal to show respect to another country’s leader in a way that is representative of their culture? I know a lot of redneck American idiots still think the world revolves around American ideology, but that kind of imperialistic bullshit makes you sound like a raving douche.

This is a perfect example of how people go out of their way to be annoyed by something, even if that something is so incredibly boring and harmless. This whole, “I am outraged that the president showed respect to some slope,” is ridiculous. It’s not newsworthy. You know what is newsorthy? If Obama anally kick fucked the emperor saying, “Who’s the emperor now, beeeeeeyotch!?” And then he did this dance to funk music that just spontaneously started playing:

A bow among equals or to a respected elder is at about 15 degrees. Obama is clearly closer to 60... Nevertheless, sovereign heads of state do not bow or genuflect to each other. The Emperor was not honored by this. He was embarrassed at Obama's basic inability at handling simple protocol... Romney/Pawlenty 2012...

    MacKenzie-
A traditional greeting in Japan, and most of Asia, is a bow. Obama is not Asian, so maybe he got the angle of degrees wrong,it is not his normal way of greeting. He may have not gotten it right on, but he tried. That is what counts in my humble opinion. How many people salute the veterans of our country, but get the snap of the hand wrong while saluting? Would you consider that to be disgraceful?

How is it disgraceful to show the leader of another country respect in a way that is familiar to their culture?

My guess is that people who are offended by this don't hold doors open for little old ladies either.

    dumbass#2-
If ya dont know how to salute DONT! Shake hands or just say Thank you. If you're NOT one why try to be? IT IS OFFENSIVE! Whether to a veteran or a foreigner. If ya dont know the customs and courtesies DONT ATTEMPT!

Narrowmindedness and idiocracy is also offensive, but that doesn't seem to stop some people.

You are acting as though he fllipped off America while burning our flag and drinking babies blood with Bin Laden.

Ever been to Japan? Gone out to eat there? Did you tip your server?? Because they consider tipping to be offensive as well.

I think this is the type of respect Americans need to give people from other countries. We make jokes about how America is the only country that truly matters, but they're just jokes. These pundits are being completely sincere and truly take offense to Obama bowing to another foreign leader.

It sells papers and gets people talking, but in the end, all it does is make us look collectively ridiculous.

  3. Deemanboy24's Avatar Deemanboy24 says:

Darn that Muslim illegal immigrant anti-Christ communist President of ours for being respectful to a foreign leader! How dare he greet someone in the way that is traditional in their land? What is he going to do next, not kick babies?!

  4. Ken's Avatar Ken says:

I love how the original news article cites Cheney not bowing in Japan as the alternative way of doing things. Newsflash: Dick Cheney is the closest thing we've had to a true supervillain in the White House since DC Comics did the President Lex storyline, which wasn't even real. I repeat: I am comparing Dick Cheney to Lex Luthor, a fictional enemy of all mankind. No other politician has ever caused me to do this.

What were we talking about? Oh, yeah. Obama bowing. Well, he's not even an American citizen anyway, so maybe they bow as a greeting wherever he was born (THE IRAQ?!!1).

Duh. It further exposes the weak underbelly of the American devil to the rest of the world. Once they see that we are weak and stupid, they will attack us with all their might.

Of course, that's when the big fucking planes and bombs and shit come out and the world ends up glowing nuclear, but no plan is perfect.

FOCUS: I personally don't have a problem with him bowing. I just wish would have put a little effort into learning the proper technique.

If he would have bowed correctly, it would not look as absurd as that picture portrays and it wouldn't even be an issue.

'cause like everybody knows, in Germany, it's considered polite to play grab ass with the prime minister. Shrub was just respecting their culture.

I was at the gym and there were a couple people talking about it. This one big fat guy was outraged, when he was asked why, he said, "It's demeaning to Americans!"

The problem is that a bow in the East doesn't necessarily mean the same thing. It's like Obama bowed and said, "Yes sire, shine ya shoes guv-nuh" and scurried off...

I'm just not understanding what the big deal is.

  12. Ken's Avatar Ken says:

When you're on someone else's turf and you want to show them respect, you do it their way. Not yours. American customs don't follow you when you leave American borders, which makes me wonder how many of the people bitching about this have actually been out of the country.

Same and I already have two stamps in it. I enjoy having the freedom to leave the U.S. if need be and plan to use my passport many more times. There's a chance I'll be moving to Indonesia for a while in the next year or so.

Don't forget if you go to school there it automatically makes you a radial Muslim. I hear the madrassas there are nice, though. So nice, in fact, they don't appear to be madrassas at all! But don't let that fool you. If Sean Hannity said they're terrorist schools, it must be true.

Wow, two whole stamps. You are quite the seasoned traveler.

Um, did you miss the point about how most Americans don't even have a passport? Compared to them he IS a seasoned traveler, especially since he's still a kid. (I'm hearing Marissa Tomei from My Cousin Vinny "what are you a fricken world travela?")

On focus, American people are dumb. It's amazing to me how people don't want us to have good relations with other countries but then wonder why everyone else on the planet hates us.

It's not my choice. I go where my dad's job takes him.

I don't even know if I'll go because I may be in school.

And yes, two whole stamps. I just turned 18 and have had my passport for MAYBE a full year so that's pretty damn good.

You can find similar images of "great" conservative presidents Regan and Nixon bowing to foreign leaders over the last half century.

The premise of the argument is false. This bowing thing is nothing new, and the racists who pretend to be arguing over issues, should just drop the pretext and proclaim their racism to the world.

In other news, this clip sums up pretty well the problem with most of the right wing racist nutcases. They have no idea what the words mean, only that they sound angry, and are angry at "others".
